Dale and Lisa Siebrecht
Lisa Siebrecht and her husband Dale farm near the town of Curlew in the northwest corner of Iowa. They raise pork, soybeans, corn and alfalfa with Lisa's parents and live on her great grandparent's farm. Lisa is a member of the Eden Farms Board of Directors.
After graduating from Buena Vista University, both Lisa and Dale decided to farm and raise hogs. But in 1999, the continued industrialization of the American pork industry led them to the decision that pork production was no longer a profitable option for their family farm.
All that changed in the spring of 2000, when Lisa first met Kelly Biensen, founder and current General Manager of Eden Farms Berkshire Pork. As Lisa remembers, "Kelly convinced me that we could find a niche producing Berkshire pork. We started with 40 purebred Berkshire gilts and have grown to 90. The success in raising Berkshire pigs profitably is made even more rewarding when you know that you own a portion of the company that provides a great product to your customers."
The Siebrecht family enjoy biking, fishing and spending summer weekends camping.
"I've always felt fortunate to have an occupation so rewarding, yet challenging. Our family feels an obligation to protect the land the Lord has blessed us with, treat our animals in a humane manner, and be good neighbors in our community."
